Can it really be a whole year since I logged in to dA?  Yikes!  I apologize for my (even moreso than expected) prolonged absence.  Life has been a bit of a handful, and I've been wearing slippery mittens for most of the past 12 months.

To that end, I'm going to set about the long task of getting caught up.  If you left me a note and didn't get a reply, I will try to remedy that - though it may take a bit of time.  I'll also try to get some new work up soon on all 3 of my dA pages, resources and creativity willing.  :)

There's no new music up, for a couple of reasons.  Foremost is that I can't access my website to FTP new things up.  A close second is my having sold most of my equipment over the past year.  ^^;  Such is life, and subject to random change without notice.

Again, sorry to have gone away for so long.

Until further notice, I'm not doing any more stock.  I may post one or two things that I've already done, but that's it.

No requests.  I'm really sorry, but I won't do them.  I'd rather be up front about it than disappoint people.

In other news, I've updated the "Altruism Challenge" with a new song.  If you're unfamiliar with it, I'm offering a song or two each month for download.  The only catch is that you have to "buy" it by helping out someone else.  Simple enough, really.  So get to it!

February's song is Stellar Eye.  `lockstock mentioned that she thought the Hubble Space Telescope needed a themesong, so I sat down and made one.  Enjoy!

Down Time, and a Challenge

Hiya, all...  Just wanted to let people know that I'll probably be out of things for a little while.  I'll try to get all of the requests and such knocked out soon, but otherwise, I think I need a bit of a break.

When I come back, I'll probably clean out a few of the older, lower-quality things from my gallery to make room for newer, more polished stuff.

In the meantime, I have a challenge for everyone:

I'll be uploading some new music files, hopefully one or two per month.  To get these, all you have to do is click here.

The catch?  Before downloading it, I want you to do someone else a favor, large or small.  Something that makes their life better.  It doesn't have to be money; it can be anything, really.  For now, we're working on the honor system, so please feel free to reward yourselves.

This month is a two-for-one deal, including the "Jade Macalla Theme Song," Brigand.  So get to making someone's world better, OK?

:)

Had sort of a frustrating Halloween, so instead of going out I stayed in and made treats for everyone -- a special "Halloween Edition" CD:

Morbid Marionette: Ten spooky songs to start your winter right.

To that end, I've also got some new stock to post.  So it's a double-treat, if you've got a morbid stripe.

I also have an "official" CD:

It's a collection of "industrial cinematic electronica" (Along the lines of the "Silent Hill" soundtrack), with a couple of Japanese-horror-inspired songs as well.
Give it a listen here if you like industrial, goth, darkwave, or just plain creepy stuff.

NOTE:  If you click the link, but don't see a flash music player with 15 tracks, please let me know.  If you don't have Internet Explorer and Flash, please go HERE.

You can also download a FREE CD of "unofficial" remixes here.

If you like b-movies, you owe yourself at least a listen!

Lastly, I would like to extend an ENORMOUS "Thank You!" to everyone who has helped `lockstock and I in our quest for a car.  It's finally paid off!  I am, honestly, dazed and dumbfounded by your generosity and kindness. You guys are the absolute best people on the planet!</b> :boogie:

HELP A FELLOW DEVIANT

I received a note today from ~KelusWulf, AKA Candace Paulson.  She and her husband are in a really, really tight spot, and could really use some of that DA magic we're so darn good at.

Basically, she and her husband lost everything in an apartment fire, just after their wedding.  Although they've mostly gotten back on their feet, the massive cost of losing their home and all their property is staggering.  There are more details here.  Please take a minute to go and read it.

Candace is willing to do original art, both black and white and color, as well as modelling and photography.  And even if you don't happen to need any art, if you can spare an extra $20, $5... anything, it would be a wonderful thing.  Please chip in if you can, and if you can't, keep a good thought for her and her husband.  Thanks!

"Dirty Pool, for a Good Cause"

I'm trying to get the musicians on ACID Planet to help do a breast-cancer benefit CD.  In order to get people to see the song, it needs to be far enough up on the charts to not get buried in obscurity.  You can all help by going here and listening to the song "Ashes".  Just click the little triange next to the song title.  And if you like it, please feel free to download it.  Anyway, anyone can play the song once per day and have it count toward the song's total (although if you want to listen to it all day long, I'm certainly not going to complain ^.^).  If you want to listen to any of the other songs, I'd be flattered, but "Ashes" is the one that really counts.  That, and "Song for Val," which was written and sung by `lockstock.

EDIT:</i> The page for the song "Ashes" has been moved to here.  Sorry for the confusion.

I finally cut a CD!

To all of my deviant friends, I humbly and sincerely apologize for my extended absence.

I apologize as well for the massive number of uploads I'm about to make.  I promise I'll zip most of them up as packages, OK?
Okay, this is going to sound offacious. I don't really care.

I am a professional artist.

I make a living with a pencil, paper, and computer. It's what I do. What does that have to do with DeviantART?

A heck of a lot, I'd have to say.

DeviantART is an artist's community. It is a showcase, true. But any website would serve for that purpose. Why build something as colossal and complex as DeviantART? I'll tell you why.

It's a big, ugly world out there. And, in my experience, artists have always been at odds with the rest of reality. Almost all of the professional artists I have met or worked with share some common traits that are starting to be noticeably glossed over here. They shouldn't be, because every artist wants to be professional. Even if they are not A professional by trade.

Artists take care of their own. No drama, no "I'm better than you, because..." There's a saying from the American West, "there's always someone faster on the draw." Equally true in art. No matter who you are, there's always someone you will admire, be inspired by, be vexed by, and someday hope to equal in their domain. It's a glorious ecosystem.

If you're still reading this (amazingly), and you consider yourself an artist, I would ask one thing of you. Keep your eyes open. Every apiring artist or novice is walking along a road that would look very, very familiar to you. We've been there, and we're still there, albiet maybe at a different gas station along the way. As artists, it's a case of "Us against The World." Every empty criticism (note: this is different from critique), every bigoted statement, and every dream we stomp on to make our own ego feel a little less threatened weakens us.

Critique: don't be afraid to. Point out weaknesses that artists can work on fixing, as well as strengths they can exploit mercilessly. If someone disagrees with you, pay attention. They might not be right, but they might not be wrong, either. Anything that makes you think and consider things is good; anything that makes you close up and roil in spite is worthless and doesn't need to be propagated here.

Somewhere, that perfect bit of advice or inspiration is out there for us. And, in turn, we owe it to our Art to strive to be that advice or inspiration for those with us.

Thank you.
